What Is Mesothelioma

The question, "what is mesothelioma?" can be answered in several ways. It can be simply stated as an aggressive cancer which affects the protective membranes of cells lining the mesothelial and peritoneal cavities.

Mesothelioma is an aggressive disease of the cellular processes within the mesothelium, the membrane-like tissue that envelopes the abdominal cavity and the mesothelial cells that line it. Mesothelioma is the form of malignant mesothelioma. Malignant mesothelioma is a more aggressive form of the disease than the other forms. This form of the disease has also been referred to as other names such as peritoneal mesothelioma, peritoneal pleural mesothelioma, and peritoneal carcinoma.

The cells which produce the protective membranes of the cells lining the peritoneal cavity are referred to as peritoneal mesothelioma cells. They are the types of mesothelioma, which occurs in the peritoneal cavity of the abdomen. The peritoneal mesothelioma cells are what typically go on to form tumors.

A very dangerous form of mesothelioma is called peritoneal mesothelioma. It is the most aggressive form of the disease.

Peritoneal mesothelioma is the form of mesothelioma which causes the most life-threatening kind of cell death. The cell death is when the cancerous cells are able to physically engulf the surrounding healthy cells and destroy them. This is a very fast way to die. The reason why it is called cell death is that it is caused by the cell dying within the surrounding tissue.

Cellular death is also what occurs in many forms of cancers. But the method of cell death is not the same for all forms of cancer. Mesothelioma cell death is not affected by the immune system and is not caused by any type of immunity. However, the immune system may also contribute to the formation of some kinds of mesothelioma cell death.

Peritoneal mesothelioma (the more common form) is caused by being exposed to asbestos. While asbestos has been found in many places, including various states in the U.S., the most common location is in the areas where there have been asbestos mining and milling operations.

Peritoneal mesothelioma usually begins in the peritoneum, or the tissue that surrounds the internal organs of the abdomen. Peritoneal mesothelioma is often caused by exposure to asbestos.

Peritoneal mesothelioma is a very rare form of mesothelioma. It is the form of mesothelioma, which affects people who have never been exposed to asbestos. Only three percent of people who have developed peritoneal mesothelioma had been exposed to asbestos.

If you were exposed to asbestos at one time or another, then you probably are suffering from this very rare form of mesothelioma. The different types of asbestos (chrysotile, crocidolite, and tremolite) have different degrees of toxicity and most people who are diagnosed with this form of mesothelioma have some type of exposure to at least one of these.

Peritoneal mesothelioma is mostly treated through surgical procedures and chemotherapy. Both can be expensive and invasive and are considered to be very effective for the majority of cases of peritoneal mesothelioma.

There are many different forms of mesothelioma. Since this disease affects the protective membranes that surround the cells lining the peritoneal cavity, it is wise to consult a doctor who specializes in this type of cancer if you think you may have the disease.
