Symptoms and Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a cancer that affects the lining of the lungs. The primary form of mesothelioma, pleural mesothelioma, causes cancerous tumors that are found in the lining that covers the chest cavity. In addition to affecting the lungs, pleural mesothelioma can also affect the heart and other organs in the body.

The typical symptoms of mesothelioma can be very frustrating to live with. Common symptoms include coughing, shortness of breath, pain, and weight loss.

Mesothelioma is one of the most treatable forms of cancer. However, it can sometimes take a long time to detect and/or treat the cancer, and the initial diagnosis can be very difficult.

Early detection is critical for a number of reasons: The early stages of pleural mesothelioma are often very curable. However, when symptoms of pleural mesothelioma are not recognized and treated, the disease can progress rapidly.

Mesothelioma is different from other types of skin cancer because it usually affects the lungs. It is very difficult to tell the difference between mesothelioma and other types of lung cancer because pleural mesothelioma is usually similar to other types of lung cancer. Often, symptoms will be similar to that of other forms of lung cancer.

Since lung cancer is found almost exclusively in men, most people who develop the disease are men. However, women can also develop pleural mesothelioma. Even though it has been rare, it is becoming more common as well.

If you suspect you have pleuralmesothelioma, you should first begin by consulting with your doctor and then begin to look at your medical history. If you were exposed to asbestos, or if you have had any other form of lung cancer, then you may be at a higher risk of developing pleural mesothelioma. If you have a family history of lung cancer, or if you have used tobacco products for many years, you are also at risk.

The risk of developing pleural mesothelioma is higher if you smoke. If you do not smoke but are exposed to asbestos on a regular basis, you are still at risk. You should also make sure that you are not a heavy smoker.

Mesothelioma can affect a man or a woman and is most common in men. Females are much more likely to contract the disease than males.

Traditional treatments for mesothelioma focus on removing the cancer itself, removing the tumor, and removing blood clots. Unfortunately, these traditional treatments cannot always remove all the tumor.

In addition to conventional treatments, mesothelioma patients may choose to undergo radiation therapy, or Chemotherapy. Radiation therapy can sometimes clear the cancer but more often it only clears the cancerous cells that are closest to the original tumor. Sometimes the cancer is too far removed from the original cancer to be treated through radiation therapy.

Chemotherapy is another form of mesothelioma treatment that has been gaining popularity. Chemotherapy is a form of medicine that attacks cancer cells that are spreading. It may involve the use of chemotherapy drugs, which are injected into the body.
