Mesothelioma - What You Need to Know

Chemotherapy drugs work by killing off any new cell growth. Patients suffering from mesothelioma and other forms of cancer will need this treatment at least once, especially since this cancer has a poor prognosis.

Most mesothelioma patients can expect to reach the terminal stage of their disease within 5 years. Many people who are diagnosed with this type of cancer can expect to live for five years or less. Sometimes patients will live much longer than this, but the majority of these patients will survive for at least five years.

The cancer is highly treatable, and many patients with this type of cancer will live longer than five years, even after reaching the aggressive cancer stage. Cancer has no cure, but the prognosis for most people with cancer is good. If the cancer is diagnosed and treated early, the patient should be able to get well enough to be able to live an active life as long as the cancer is treated.

The number of cases of mesothelioma diagnosed each year continues to increase, and the chances of survival are excellent. Even after treatment, many patients still survive this type of cancer.
